Tip 145 ”sort something out” 無料ビジネス英語学習
無料ビジネス英語学習 Words & Phrases 第145弾は、”sort something out” です。
問題発覚!解決すべく、周りに対応をお願いすることってありますよね。
今回はそんな場面で使える表現を紹介します。
例えば、ヒカは上司のタロウに
“There was a mistake in our invoice.”「請求書にミスがあったんです。。」とと報告しました。
「対応してもらえる?」と伝えたい場合、あなたがタロウなら英語で何と言いますか?
“Please solve it.”「解決してください。」
でも伝わりますが、直接的で強い表現ですので気を付けましょう。
そこで
“Could you please sort it out?”「対応してもらえる?」
と言ってみましょう。sort outは「整理する」という意味の表現ですが、こういった場面では「対応する」という意味になります。

words and phrases
video series and today's idiom
is "sort something out."
Sorted out. What does it mean? We will
find out, but first let's do
our usual test. Okay,
so I say to you "So are you coming to the
seminar?
are you coming to my seminar?" Yes? you say...
that's right!
Well, I'm still on the fence. Okay,
I hope you got that. Alright let's go
on to today's
idiom "sort something out."
Okay, here's what I sometimes hear -- so
I say to Taro, let's imagine Taro is
my boss
this time. He's my boss. Let's say "Boss, boss, boss! Taro,
there was a mistake in our invoice
and the customer's really angry. What do we do?"
And Taro says "What? Well, please solve it."
Yes, sir! Okay,
so "solve it... solve the problem" which is
okay, but it's actually really, really
strong
you know -- solve it. Using it as a verb... because it's kinda negative.
Please solve it. So, just a more natural and softer way
to say this is like this -- Okay, so I say
Taro, there was a mistake in our
invoice and the customer's
a little bit angry... that's right
Could you please sort it out? Could you
please sort it out,
is a lot more natural. It's softer,
it's the same like to solve a problem. To
sort a problem
out -- sorted out -- very commonly used
in business. Okay, let's practice
pronunciation
Could ya... couldya please sortitout?
It's all one word. Could you
please sort it out?
You try... Okay good. Alright with my
sentence
There was a mistake in our invoice!
Okay, I will sort it out.
Just like that. Okay, so for homework
next time I'm going to say "There was a
mistake in our invoice."
and you just say... that's right. "Could you please sort it out?"
Please remember this and we will see you next time.
Thank you.
