Point 64 ”a bit chilly”
初級者向けビジネス英会話 Bizmates for beginners 第64弾は、 “a bit chilly” です。
“Oh, you’re wearing a coat today.”「
“Yes, the temperature is going down.”「気温が下がっています。」
” Yes, it’s gotten a bit chilly.”「
と言いたい場合は「It’s gotten a bit chilly recently.」

Hello and welcome to this Bizmates for beginners
video series for business people
and today's word is chilly. A bit chilly.
What does this mean?
Well first we will do our test.
OK so remember last time we learned
we are colleagues and we are running
to the train station. And I say,
hurry up we can make the 137 train.
We can catch it.Come on. And you say,
no no, that's right way.
I'm out of breath. That's right, not I'm
tired, but I'm out of breath. OK.
So let's go on to today's lesson.
A bit chilly. And here is what I often
hear
so let's imagine Taro
is wearing a coat today. Taro and I are
colleagues
and he's wearing a coat. He usually
doesn't wear a coat.
So I'm a little surprised and I say, so Taro
you're wearing a coat today. And he says, ah
yes the temperature is going down.
All right, right. Now it's November you know in October it was kind of warm now in
November, it's a little bit cool.
The temperature is going down. Yeah, but
it's okay I understand the meaning. But
in this case, it's a little bit
unnatural. The temperature is going down.
What's a more natural way
to say when the temperature is changing
you know from season to season? Well we
can say this,
so if I say oh you're wearing a coat today.
And he says, yes it's gotten a bit chilly.
Oh, very natural.Yes
it's gotten a bit chilly. Yes it's gotten a bit
chilly.
OK, chilly means cold. And
you know get, gotten. It it has gotten
cold recently. It's gotten a bit chilly
recently. You can add recently if you'd
like.
OK, let's practice pronunciation. So
it's yes with a pause.
Yes. it's gotten a bit, it's gotten a bit
chilly. You try. OK with my
phrase. Oh you're wearing a coat today.
Good.
OK, so for homework, next time I see you,
I'm going to say oh you're wearing a
coat today. And you say,
yes it's gotten a bit chilly.
Please remember this and we will see you
next time. Thank you.
