相手を気遣う言葉をかけることってありますよね。
例えば、
“I didn’t pass the test.”「テストに合格しなかったんだよ」と言うあなたの同僚に、
心の底から「それは残念だったね」と伝えたい場合に、あなたなら何と言いますか?
“That’s too bad.”
こちらは非常によく使われる表現ですが、実は「話し方」によっては、
若干、他人事な印象を与えてしまうんです。
そこで、こんな時には、
“I’m sorry to hear that.”
と言ってみましょう。
こちらの方がより丁寧な言い方で、相手を気遣っている印象を与える表現です。

And let's imagine, I took some kind of test.
Maybe a promotion test or I don't know,
math test or some kind of test.
And I say, yeah Taro, I didn't pass the test.
I failed the test.
And Taro says, hmmm... that's too bad.
OK. Now this is OK, that's too bad.
But it sounds sometimes, it sounds like
I don't care. You know, well that's too bad.
That's your problem, not my problem yeah.
Now if you say, oh that's too bad. Maybe it's OK.
But if you just say, that's too bad.
It it means, I don't care yeah.
OK so let's not use this one.
OK here's a better way.
