Hello! And welcome to another Bizmates for Beginners video lesson where every
00:05
week we introduced a new idiom, phrase, or expression that you can use in your
00:10
daily business conversation. This week everyone we are going to learn: Jet Lag.
00:16
Something I'm sure all of you have probably experienced at some point or
00:20
another. But if you don't know what this is please stay tuned and we'll find out
00:25
what this means and how to use it in more detail. But first as always let's
00:30
start with a quick review from last week's class. Ok, so imagine you come into
00:37
the office. And you see me but I'm not looking very happy, not very energetic,
00:42
I'm kind of down. So how do you ask about my condition using the expression from
00:49
last week? I'll give you five seconds to think about it. Are you ready? Okay and go!
00:59
Alright and time is up. If you asked: Hey Justin, are you okay? Why the long face?
01:06
And that's exactly right. Well done and thank you for remembering
01:10
last week's class. Okay, let's move on to: Jet Lag. Now this is what I sometimes
01:16
hear. Alright, so my good friend and colleague Taro he's been away on
01:21
business trip for a couple of weeks. He just came back to the office. So I say:
01:26
Taro, how was your business trip to New York? How did it go? He says: Yeah, it was
01:33
good. But I have time lag. Time lag, time lag, time lag. Okay, I see, I know what
01:41
you're trying to say. You're not really used to the time here. So it's kind of a
01:45
lag. Although this is okay, I understand what Taro is trying to say,
01:49
you might hear a native English speaker say something like this: It was good. But
01:55
I have jet lag. Right, jet lag. So when it's morning in your destination, but in
02:02
Japan it's nighttime. Or if it's morning in Japan and it's nighttime in your
02:07
destination, your body clock is confused. You can't sleep. Alright, you have
02:13
jet lag. Okay, not time lag, jet lag. Alright? So pronunciation, it's as you see
02:19
it here. So please repeat after me. Please notice that when I speak or when
02:24
I say this very quickly, I eliminate, I don't pronounce the ' T ' at the end of jet.
02:31
So it's not jet lag. No no it's jet lag, jet lag. Okay, alright, so repeat after me:
02:38
Yeah it was good. But I have jet lag. Your turn. Okay, good. Now after my question: So
02:46
hey, how was your business trip to New York? It was good. But I have jet lag. Okay.
02:53
But I read this somewhere online if you do have jet lag, they say don't take a
02:57
nap. You know just try to power through the day, keep on going drink lots of
03:01
orange juice. I hear vitamin C is good for you that could be a lie, but try it
03:06
for yourself. See if it works, but anyways okay, remember this for next time. Our
03:10
bonus question this week everyone is another way to say: It was really fun. It
03:15
was really fun. If you know what the answer is please leave it in the
03:18
comments below. If you don't know what the answer is, but you are curious, you
03:22
are in luck. Because we covered it in one of our previous Bizmates for Beginners
03:27
video lessons, so take a look if you have the time. And of course I will leave the
03:31
answer to last week's bonus question in the information and comments below, so
03:36
take a look. Okay, so thank you very much for watching the channel. As always
03:40
everyone, have a great weekend and I'll see you next time. Bye bye!
