Hello everyone. Justin here and welcome
to another Bizmates for Beginners video
0:00:06.509,0:00:11.790
lesson, where every week we introduce a
new idiom, phrase, or expression that you
0:00:11.790,0:00:16.680
can use in your daily business
conversation. And this week everyone,
0:00:16.680,0:00:22.800
we are going to learn: "underdog." So to find
out what this means and how to use it
0:00:22.800,0:00:27.570
please stay tuned, but first everyone,
let's start with a quick review of last
0:00:27.570,0:00:32.520
week's class.
Alright so imagine I say: Hey, let's go
0:00:32.520,0:00:38.010
for a drink this week sometime!
But unfortunately, your schedule is really,
0:00:38.010,0:00:43.829
really busy. So how do you say that using
the expression from last week? I'll give
0:00:43.829,0:00:47.780
you five seconds to think about it.
You ready? Okay go.
0:00:52.140,0:00:55.200
OK everyone and time is up.
0:00:55.260,0:01:00.520
If you said: "Sorry. My schedule is
packed this week. How about next week?"
0:01:00.539,0:01:05.280
then that's exactly right. Well done and
thank you for remembering last week's
0:01:05.280,0:01:12.080
class. OK everyone, so let's move on to:
"underdog." Now this is what I sometimes hear...
0:01:12.260,0:01:17.840
OK so I'm sure, as many of you
know, its World Cup season. So the country
0:01:17.850,0:01:23.070
and the world is gripped by the intense
competition of the World Cup and I'm
0:01:23.070,0:01:27.750
speaking to my colleague, Taro, about the
World Cup and about the teams
0:01:27.750,0:01:33.630
he's supporting and I say: Hey, Taro! Did
you watch the game? Who did you cheer for?
0:01:33.630,0:01:42.360
Taro says: I always cheer for the weaker
team. OK, yeah maybe they're hungrier.
0:01:42.360,0:01:47.250
You know, they have a lot more to gain
and it's a lot more exciting to cheer
0:01:47.250,0:01:53.399
for the weaker team. But instead of
saying the "weaker team" Taro can say
0:01:53.399,0:01:59.340
something like this: I always cheer for
the underdog. Okay, so you always have the
0:01:59.340,0:02:04.950
top dog - the team or the person that's
strongest, and then you have the underdog -
0:02:04.950,0:02:09.750
the weaker team, or the weaker player, or
whoever that's struggling to
0:02:09.750,0:02:15.580
kind of get to the top.
So Taro is always cheering for the underdog, okay?
0:02:15.700,0:02:20.280
How about you? Alright
so pronunciation here, everyone, it's very
0:02:20.280,0:02:23.370
simple:
underdog - just as you see it here, so
0:02:23.370,0:02:28.060
please repeat after me:
I always cheer for the underdog.
0:02:28.060,0:02:30.060
Your turn.
0:02:31.620,0:02:37.160
Okay. Alright, now after my question here:
So did you watch the game? Who did
0:02:37.160,0:02:38.880
you cheer for?
0:02:41.080,0:02:44.200
Okay, I always cheer for the underdog.
0:02:44.220,0:02:48.810
Alright so please remember this for next
week's review, and hopefully you can use
0:02:48.810,0:02:52.800
this in your daily business conversation
when you're talking about the World Cup
0:02:52.800,0:02:56.940
with your co-workers and colleagues, okay?
Alright everyone, so the bonus
0:02:56.940,0:03:01.860
question this week is another way to say:
"it was really fun.' If you know what the
0:03:01.860,0:03:05.370
answer is, please leave it in the
comments below. If you don't know what
0:03:05.370,0:03:09.600
the answer is, well you can find it in
one of our previous videos so take a
0:03:09.600,0:03:13.680
look if you've got the time.
OK everyone so that is it for me this week,
0:03:13.680,0:03:18.000
thank you always for watching. Have a
great weekend, everyone and I'll see you
0:03:18.000,0:03:19.860
next time. Thank you.
