Hello everyone it is Friday and that
means it's time for another Bizmates for
Beginners video lesson. So let's get
started and jump right into our
expression this week which is going to
be: "be short with someone." Now this
doesn't mean, you know, being the same
height as someone. It's something totally
different. So if you want to know what it
means, stay tuned but first everyone
let's do a quick review to make sure you
remember last week's class okay?
So imagine I asked you: Do you remember his name?
But you can't remember, so what is
a more interesting way of saying
"can't remember something?"
I'll give you five seconds okay? You ready?
Alright go!
And time is up. If you said
"sorry, I'm drawing a blank"
then that's exactly right. Good
job and thank you for remembering last
week's expression. Alright so moving on
to "be short with someone." Now this is
what I sometimes hear -- alright so recently, the atmosphere in
our office isn't so good. So, I say to Taro:
Yeah, the boss is in a bad mood recently.
He's always angry at people and
the atmosphere isn't so good. And Taro,
he says: Yes, he is angry suddenly with
everyone. Okay I understand what you are
trying to say. This is alright but we
can use something more interesting and
that is... yes, he is short with everyone. So
this means that the boss'
patience is really, really low. Maybe
the boss has a lot of stress or you know
things aren't going well. So when his
patience is very low, he or she could get
angry very easily; they could explode
very easily, alright? So in that case
you can say that he or she
is really "short with someone" alright?
So he's really short with me today or she
is really short with them, okay?
So it means to have a short temper; to get
angry very suddenly and very easily, alright?
Okay, so pronunciation isn't so special
this week, it's just as you see it
written here everyone. So, please repeat
after me:
he is short with everyone. Your turn.
Alright good, okay now after my sentence here:
Yeah, the boss is in a bad mood recently.
Okay good. Yes, he is short with everyone.
So hopefully your superiors, your boss,
isn't short with you -- that would make
working very tough sometimes, right? Okay
everyone, so remember this for next time.
Our bonus question this week is another
way to say: "get along with him." If you
know the answer, you can leave it in the
comments below. If you don't know the
answer, you can find it in one of our
previous Bizmates for beginners video
lessons so check it out if you've got
some time. And that is it for me this
week everyone. Thank you so much for
watching, as always enjoy your weekend
and I'll see you next time. Thank you.
