「タロウ聞いた？サムが今朝辞めたんだって！」
「聞いたよ！ものすごくびっくりしたよ。」
と言いたい場合、あなたがタロウなら英語で何と言いますか？
“Yes! That’s so surprising!”
これでも良いのですが、こんな時もっと自然で、臨場感のある表現をしてみませんか。
そこで
“Yes! That’s so out of the blue!”
と言ってみましょう。
思ってもみなかったことが急に起こった時、知らなかったことを聞かされた時など、
日常で驚く場面というのは意外と多いものですよね。

So what does it mean?
How do we use it?
Let's find out but first, as always, let's do a quick review of last week's expression.
OK, everyone. Imagine I say:Hey, nice watch, Taro!
Now, if you are Taro, what do you say?
How do you respond? I'll give you five seconds, okay? Go.
And time is up, everyone.
If you said "Thank you. It cost me a pretty penny"
then you got it.
Nice job and thanks for remembering last week's expression.
OK moving on to "out of the blue."
This is what I sometimes hear:OK again I'm talking to Taro, and I say: Taro, did you hear? Sam quit this morning!
and Taro, he says:Yes! That's so surprising!
OK, so although this is a very natural expression, if you want to add a little bit of punch to your English, you can also say...
that's right.
Yes! That's so out of the blue!
So if something happens unexpectedly or if something is surprising you can say that it's "out of the blue" okay?
So you weren't expecting it but it happened and you're a little bit shockedor surprised... that's right, it's out of the blue
OK, so pronunciation and rhythm. Fairly simple but one small point this week
Out of... when we say this quickly it becomes "outta," okay?
Instead of out of the blue it's outta the blue.
Alright, everyone? Please repeat after me.
