Point 168 ”right-hand man”
“Here is the report you asked for.”
“Thank you! You’re my best worker!”
“Thank you! You’re my right-hand man!”
※”right-hand man” の”man”の代わりに”woman”や”person”を使ってもOKです!
Hello, everyone. Justin here with another
Bizmates for beginners video lesson.
This week we are going to learn the expression:
right-hand man.
So what is a right-hand man? We'll find
out in just a moment. but first let's do
a quick recap of last week's expression.
OK, everyone, imagine I say:
Can you get me a coffee when
you go to the convenience store?
How do you respond? What do you say?
You have five seconds, okay?
Go!
And time is up, everyone.
If you said "you got it"
then nice job and thank you for remembering
last week's expression.
OK, moving on to "right-hand man"
this is what I sometimes hear:
OK, in this scenario I'm talking to Taro, and Taro,
in this case, is my boss, okay?
So I say:
Here is the report you asked for.
I finished the report. And Taro who is my
boss he says:
Thank you! You're my best worker!
Alright, well thank you very much, Taro
for saying so. That's very kind of you.
And although this expression is fine,
it's not very natural.
So, what should Taro say?
That's right. He should say:
Thank you! You're my right-hand man!
OK, so our right-hand man is someone that
helps you and support you the most in
your work, okay?
So he or she is your best employee,
your best worker, someone you trust the most.
So your "ace." OK, everyone?
alright so that
is "right hand man" or woman depending on
the situation, okay?
Alright, so about pronunciation -- very
simple, one small point when we say this
quickly, native speakers will tend to drop the "T."
So, instead of "right-hand man"
it becomes righ'-hand man, okay?
So that T becomes dropped.
Alright, so please repeat after me...
Right hand man.
Excellent. So after my sentence:
Here's the report you asked for.
Alright! Nice job, everyone. Thank you!
So please try to remember this for next
week's review.
OK, so this week's bonus question is
another way to say:
Your "business."
So, if you know the answer
leave it in the comments below, but if
you don't know the answer,
take a few minutes and try to find it in
one of our previous Bizmates for
beginners video lessons. Okay, everyone?
Alright, so that is it for me this week, everyone.
Thank you so much for watching.
Have a great weekend
and see you next Friday.
Thank you.
