Point 160 ”complain”
“Taro, was the customer angry? What happened?”
“Yes, she claimed about our service.”
“Yes, she complained about our service.”

Hello, everyone. Justin here and welcome
to another Bizmates for beginners video lesson.
Today, for our time together, we are going to cover
the word "complain."
Now I'm sure many of you have
heard this word before
and some of you may have
used it in your conversations.
But there's another expression that many
of my students have used incorrectly.
What is it? Well I'll tell you about it
in just a moment, but first let's do a quick review of last week's expression.
OK, everyone, so imagine
I say: Our project is behind schedule
What should we do? You have five seconds
to give me the right answer.
Go.
And time is up.
If you said
we have to pick up the pace
nice job, everyone. Thank you so much for
remembering the expression.
Alright, so today's word then:
complain.
OK, this is what I sometimes hear:
I'm talking to my colleague, Taro,
and Taro was dealing with a really angry customer.
OK, so I say:
Taro, was the customer angry? What happened?
And Taro says:
Yes, she claimed about our service.
OK, now many, many, many of my students
have used this expression "claim"
but this is incorrect.
So after today, I want everybody watching
this video never to use this expression
because it's not correct.
Instead, we have to say...
That's right.
Yes, she complained about our service.
OK? So whenever someone is unhappy
or they're not satisfied with something,
They will complain to the manager
or complain to the staff, OK?
They don't "claim" to the manager or staff.
OK, that is incorrect.
So please, everyone, remember to use the word "complain" not "claim," OK?
Alright, so pronunciation and rhythm this week
nothing special; just as it is written
here, OK? So please repeat after me
Yes, she complained about our service.
Your turn, go ahead.
Excellent. OK, now after my sentence:
Was the customer angry?
Okay. Nice job, everyone. Thank you.
So remember to use this word.
Remember this expression for next week
And I'll ask you about it in the review portion, OK?
Alright, so this week's bonus question is:
a better way to say "please wait."
OK? This is of course in one of the
previous bizmates for beginners video
lessons, so please check it out
and if you know the answer
don't be shy, leave it in the comments below
and I'll let you know if it's correct.
OK, everybody? Alright, so that is it for
this week's Bizmates for beginners video lesson.
Thanks for taking the time to watch our videos.
Have a great week and see you next time.
Thank you so much.
