相手のことをもっとよく知ると、そこから話が膨らんだりして、
相手とさらによい関係を築くことができたりしますよね。

そういう意味で「時間があるときにはどんなことをしていますか？」と
聞くのは、ビジネスにおいても重要なコミュニケーションの一つといえます。

日本人はこうした場面で、

“What is your hobby?” 「趣味はなんですか？」
と聞く人は多いです。

ただ、これだとまるで教科書で使われるような表現に聞こえますし、
“hobby” は「テニスをする」とか「ピアノを弾く」といった行為を連想させるため、

“I usually just play with my daughter.” 「いつも娘と遊んでいるよ。」
といった答えを引き出しにくい質問の仕方になってしまっています。

こういうときには、

“What do you do in your free time?”
というようにしましょう。

what is your hobby is like a textbook question.

Maybe you learned this question in school.

But we don't ask this so much.
What is your hobby? Yeah.

OK, a more natural question is this one.
What do you do in your free time? Yes.

OK? So Taro says, Hika,
what do you do in your free time?

Oh well, I usually just play with my daughter.
Or I usually read books.

Hmmm... I, I usually go to the beach, yeah.
So hobby is like tennis or you know,

it's like playing the piano.
So it's hard to imagine.
