同僚からランチへ誘われる機会ってありますよね。
今回はそんな場面で使える表現を紹介します。
例えば、ヒカは同僚のタロウに、
“Taro, let’s have Thai food for lunch I love Thai food.”
「今日のランチはタイ料理を食べに行こう！僕、タイ料理大好きなんだ。」と誘いました。
「ごめん、タイ料理は苦手なんだ。」と返答したい場合、あなたがタロウなら英語で何と言いますか？
“I don’t like Thai food.”「僕、タイ料理は嫌いなんだ。」
でも伝わりますが、ダイレクト過ぎてきつく聞こえてしまいます。
そこで、
“I’m not crazy about Thai food.” 「タイ料理はそんなに好きじゃないだ。」
と言ってみましょう。柔らかい表現です。

is crazy about. I'm not crazy about
something. What does this mean we will
find out, but first let's do our test.
So let's imagine you and I we are
talking about this new co-worker, Jun, ok
and I ask: Why did we hire Jun? What is so special about Jun? You say.. not, "He made
great performance before" but he has an
excellent track record. Very good
very natural. Hope you got that. OK let's go on to today's idiom -- I'm not crazy about
something. Now here's what I sometimes
hear -- so let's imagine Taro and I are
going to have lunch together. We are
going to a restaurant together and I
say "Taro, let's have Thai food for lunch I
love Thai food." But Taro says "Yeah I
don't like Thai food.
This is OK, but it's a little bit direct. I DON'T like Thai food... I don't want to eat it. Okay, so we need a
softer way to say "I don't like something."
Okay and we could use this... So if I say
Taro, let's have Thai food for lunch. He says "I'm not crazy about Thai food."
Very natural and much softer. Okay, I'm not crazy about Thai food. It's better than I don't
like Thai food. OK, let's look at pronunciation, it's not "I'm NOT" but it's no{t) -- I'm no(t)
crazyabou(t).. crazyabou(t). I'm no(t) crazyabou(t) Thai food. You try...
Good! OK with my sentence: Hey let's have Thai food for lunch... I understand. Okay so we could use this for
anything that we don't like so much. "I'm
not crazy about..." OK, for homework next time I
will say "Hey let's have Thai food for
lunch" and you just say... "I'm not crazy
